Request Waiting List (RQWL)
RQWL is issued for a station pair that does not fit the train's general or pooled quotas, so the berth has to be requested against the general allotment.
How often RQWL actually confirms
Measured on 1,027 RQWL tickets RailTC tracked from the first check through to their final status — not an estimate.
That headline hides most of the story — where you sit in the list matters far more than the quota does:
| Your position | Confirmed | Tickets tracked |
|---|---|---|
| RQWL 1-10 | 50.7% | 477 |
| RQWL 11-25 | 56.2% | 267 |
| RQWL 26-50 | 44.6% | 177 |
Tickets we checked once and never followed are excluded, and any band with fewer than 150 tracked tickets is left out rather than shown as a percentage. Past rates describe what happened; they are not a promise about your ticket.
How RQWL works
- It typically appears on intermediate-to-intermediate journeys that no dedicated quota covers.
- Clearance depends on the general pool at your boarding station rather than on a reserved slice, which makes it less predictable than RLWL.
